Sahih Muslim Hadith 4836 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: Sacrifice only a grown-up animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case sacrifice a ram (of even less than a year, but more than six months' age).

The Prophet (saws) said: (Of the Sacrifice) eat of it, and feed of it to others, and store of it.

Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 5.115

A person offering a sacrifice may consume, without any restrictions, any amount of meat he may desire. He may likewise give away, or offer in charity any amount he may wish. Some scholars say that one may eat half, and give away the other half in charity, while others say that the meat be divided into three parts. Of these one may keep a part, distribute a part, and give in charity the third part.

Muslim (1318) narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“On the day of al-Hudaybiyah we offered the sacrifice with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

According to another report, it was narrated that Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

We performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and we sacrificed a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

Abu Dawood (2808) narrated from Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“A cow on behalf of seven and a camel on behalf of seven.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said :

« كُلُّ غُلَامٍ مُرْتَهَنٌ بِعَقِيقَتِهِ, تُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ, وَيُحْلَقُ, وَيُسَمَّى »

« Every boy-infant is a pledge agains this ‘Aqiqah, to be slaughtered on the seventh day, he is given a name and his headis to be shaved. »

(Abu Dawud and an-Nasa’I)

From the wisdom behind the Aqiqah is expressing gratitude to Allah for the blessing of the child. It is also a means of to Allah ion order to protect and care for the child.

The top of the sliceThe top of beef pallet is a piece of choice among gourmets. Butchers call it "the top of the pallet" or "the trimmed piece", "the small thread". It can also be called the "Louchébem's piece" in the profession.

Method of cooking

Prepare a grill or a hot frying pan with butter and a hint of sunflower oil (to avoid burning and blackening the butter). Cook the piece for 2 minutes per side over high heat and salt it after cooking with fleur de sel. To avoid spoiling anything, you can deglaze the cooking juices with a drizzle of vinegar or water. For a larger steak it is possible to grill it on each side and cut it like a duck breast.


It is better to pan-fry the steaks cut from the top of the slice rather than grill them. Their cooking requires certain precautions: they should always be brought into contact with very hot fat to sear the surface, caramelizing the juices so as to leave the maximum amount of juice inside the meat.

Buying advice

For a steak, ask for the thickest part of the underside of the steak, the pear, whiting or spider, which is very tasty. The first two slices of the slice are often prepared in "tournedos" style. For a roast beef, ask for the slice that is wrapped in a wrap and tied. Ask the butcher for a beef bard, preferably a pork bard. Beef bard gives a taste, aroma and flavour of beef fat that you wouldn't find otherwise. Try it at least once.
