Sahih Muslim Hadith 4836 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: Sacrifice only a grown-up animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case sacrifice a ram (of even less than a year, but more than six months' age).

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.476 Narrated by Salama bin Al Aqua

The Prophet (saws) said: (Of the Sacrifice) eat of it, and feed of it to others, and store of it.

Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 5.115

A person offering a sacrifice may consume, without any restrictions, any amount of meat he may desire. He may likewise give away, or offer in charity any amount he may wish. Some scholars say that one may eat half, and give away the other half in charity, while others say that the meat be divided into three parts. Of these one may keep a part, distribute a part, and give in charity the third part.

Muslim (1318) narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“On the day of al-Hudaybiyah we offered the sacrifice with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

According to another report, it was narrated that Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

We performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and we sacrificed a camel on behalf of seven and a cow on behalf of seven.

Abu Dawood (2808) narrated from Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“A cow on behalf of seven and a camel on behalf of seven.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said :

« كُلُّ غُلَامٍ مُرْتَهَنٌ بِعَقِيقَتِهِ, تُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ, وَيُحْلَقُ, وَيُسَمَّى »

« Every boy-infant is a pledge agains this ‘Aqiqah, to be slaughtered on the seventh day, he is given a name and his headis to be shaved. »

(Abu Dawud and an-Nasa’I)

COOKING TIME ACCORDING TO THE PIECE OF LAMB

Leg:

- in the oven whole at 200°C : 20 min each 500 g but the time decreases afterwards. For example for a leg of lamb of 1.5 kg it will take at least 40-50 min (or more if you like it more cooked and not rare).

- in slices in the oven: 15 minutes under the grill at 220°C

- sliced in a frying pan: about 4 minutes per side

- stewed (i.e. diced): at least one hour

- in an oven casserole: 2 hours up to 7 hours (there at 120°C)

Boneless whole fillet :

20 to 30 minutes in the oven at 200°C (rotating heat). The core temperature must be 70°C

Whole rack of lamb:

20 to 30 minutes at 200°C (rotating heat) if desired a little pinkish, otherwise increase by 5 to 10 minutes. The core temperature should be 70°C

Ribs or chops :

- In the oven: under the grill and on a rack at 230°C for 15 to 17 minutes (no need to turn it over). It should just form a small crust. If you wish it to be pinker, reduce by 3-4 minutes.

- pan-fried: about 4 minutes per side

Shoulder:

- in the oven at 180°C: between one hour and one hour and a half depending on the size.

- Covered casserole: again for at least 1.5 hours until it becomes tender and comes off the bone.

- cut into pieces and simmered: about 30 min. If you wish, you can extend this to an hour on low heat.

- cut into pieces and skewered: about 6 to 7 min.

Mouse:

- in a casserole: about an hour (or a little more)

- in the oven at 200°C for about an hour

Ground lamb (usually the shoulder) :

- pan-fried : about 8 minutes

- in meatballs: about ten minutes especially in sauce or broth. If they are fried, it will take a little less time (the time it takes for them to get brown on each side).
